THE THOUGHT STAYED FREE<\/b>

a thought was born in the mind of a man
\nand it didn’t please you and it didn’t please me
\nso we all got together and we made our plan
\nto drown that thought in the deep blue sea<\/p>\n
so we wrapped it up, in a chain we bought
\ncos it didn’t please you, it didn’t please me
\nto the bottom of the ocean we threw that thought
\nand the chain went down but the thought stayed free<\/p>\n
we locked that thought in the dungeon cell
\nwe slammed the door, threw away the key
\nand how it happenned no-one can tell
\nfor the door stayed locked but the thought went free<\/p>\n
so the councillors met and laws were passed
\nthe laws were nailed on every tree
\nall the sheriffs were summoned, and troops were massed
\nall the tanks turned out but the thought went free<\/p>\n
then the councillors fears were realised
\nand they were frightened as they could be
\nfor they only had to look in peoples eyes
\nfor the terrible news that the thought was free<\/p>\n
yes the thought was free and it spread like fire
\nthough it didn’t please you, and it didn’t please me
\nit was banished from the land by the king’s desire
\nand the boat pulled out but the thought stayed free<\/p>\n
now worst of all in this terrible tale
\nthough we tried to hurl it from our shores
\nnot only did this troublesome though prevail
\nbut worst of all one thought bred more<\/p>\n
