{"id":299,"date":"2008-06-02T15:25:11","date_gmt":"2008-06-02T15:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fatsquirrel.org\/bologs\/vng\/primitive-cultures\/"},"modified":"2008-06-02T15:25:11","modified_gmt":"2008-06-02T15:25:11","slug":"primitive-cultures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fatsquirrel.org\/oldfartsalmanac\/primitive-cultures\/","title":{"rendered":"Primitive cultures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an interesting story on the <a href=\"http:\/\/downloads.bbc.co.uk\/podcasts\/radio\/newspod\/rss.xml\">BBC Newspod<\/a> about a newly discovered, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/world\/americas\/7426794.stm\">indigenous, isolated tribe in Brazil.<\/a> Aerial photos of the tribe show them firing bows and arrows towards the plane containing the photographers. It would seem that they&#8217;ve never made contact with the outside world and were therefore quite perturbed by the sight of a plane. The BBC reporter asked the &#8220;expert&#8221; they&#8217;d wheeled out, what the tribes-people would have thought the plane was. After  admitting that he didn&#8217;t know he proffered:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;they might think of them as a spirit of some sort, or a large bird&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;How primitive&#8221;, we jeer smugly! Fancy thinking that a plane is a big bird or some sort of spirit when it&#8217;s just a simple flying machine.
